History of the South Florida Chapter of the National Black MBA Association

Five MBAs employees of  Ryder Corporation and Burger King Corporation founded the South Florida Chapter in 1987. 18 members chartered the Chapter on December 18, 1997. One of our Charter members continues to serve on the Executive Board today.

South Florida is a very active chapter and meets 12 to 15 times each year.  The Chapter is known for its Networking Receptions that bring together the membership as well as corporations and the community. The Chapter has had only six presidents in our history and often four of them attend chapter events.

The chapter is known for many programs with our Scholarship and Leaders of Tomorrow (focused on teen programs being on the top on our list.

Since 1989, the chapter has awarded over $60,000 in scholarships toward the study of Business Administration at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.  Scholarships have been awarded to applicants from both the NBMBAA chapter  and the community.

Our chapter has one of the largest Leaders of Tomorrow program.  We have approximately 40 students in the program at any one time and up to 50% of our students attend our National Conference each year. See our programs section for more details about our programs.

The Chapter has an annual golf tournament that supports our Scholarship and Leaders programs.
